About Amazing Shawl

Care: Machine Wash Cool, Lay Flat to Dry
Dimensions: 40-inch wingspan x 14-inch depth
Value: USD $117.00 – USD $17.00/yarn + $100.00/labor ($10.00/hr)
Price: USD $68.00

I only wish I had more Amazing yarn to make an even more amazing shawl. I improvised the pattern; had I been blessed with more foresight, I would have introduced a lace spine, but calculations were bogging me down.

My only other self-criticism would be the final border, which actually looks fine and actually works. I meant to gradually introduce the seed stitch and then begin the 1 x 1 rib below a five-row seed stitch repeat versus beginning the rib below a one-row seed stitch repeat. Click images for enlargement/slide show.

I knew I was knitting with smaller needles (US 6) when I started and was just too lazy to change to the correct size. I just wanted to start. At first, my tension was way tight, evidenced by cramping fingers. Once I relaxed, I zipped right along. I have finished only one other project as fast: Mojo’s Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Dog Sweater, back in 2011!

Wanting to add something different, and to avoid stockinette curling, I inserted some seed stitch followed, and ending, with one-by-one ribbing. Even though I contradicted my pattern planning, I am extremely happy with the finished project.

Mystery Achievement Afghan: Update

Mystery Achievement Afghan

I have finished as much as I can – four rows – using the newly purchased Euro-Baby Maypole. Afghan is only to 41 x 41 inches squared, short nine inches of the desired width. I certainly goofed on my estimate to extended the afghan to 50 x 70 inches! At least the colors match well.

Client notified of insufficient yarn amount to continue in pattern, which is necessary due to bulkiness of yarn.

Pending notification from client on how she will proceed.

Starlit Hour Remote Cozy

Starlit Hour Remote Cozy

About The Name

Starlit Hour by Ella Fitzgerald

“Love here in the starlit hour
Oh, heaven is in your eyes
While the wind is sobbing underneath the stars
Both our hearts are throbbing like two guitars…”

Could there be a more ideal serenade to my television? As I have been deemed too ugly to have a companion, this song ideally expresses how I feel when I wind down after an easy day of crochet and knitting to crochet and knit with my dog as we begin to watch television until we fall asleep, which is usually sooner rather than later.

About Starlit Hour Remote Cozy

Yesterday, I could not find my remote for about the millionth time. The running joke is that Mojo hides it for more attention. 😆 Anyway, having located it midway through the day, I decided I was done searching and grabbed some ODDBALLS and started crocheting.

I got as far as half the length of the strap. This morning I finished it.

Next: a phone cozy!

The Name

Foux du Fafa by Flight of the Concords

Lavender and white – to me – is very foux du fafa; hence, the name! Even the song lends to the whole ambiance depicted in the television commercial featuring the same song.

Foux du fafa is the final project from the big ol’ bag of stuff CSNanaCat brough to me. I was going to make another bag, but that would have required more squares and I had already spent enough time – about two weeks – finishing.

Take The Money And Run Bag

Take The Money And Run Bag

The Name

Take The Money And Run by Steve Miller Band

Random selection from my music library, which seems quite appropros, considering the object. Although, upon selection, the thought of a gang of old women + one old man, taking the money, stuffing it into this bag and running got me chuckling.

The Bag

Details

Wooden* purse handles
Care: Consult a professional dry cleaner
Dimensions:5-inch depth x 18-inch height x 20-inch width
Price: Charity Donation

Having tired of working on OPP (Other’s People’s Projects) – 😄 who remembers when O.P.P. was something one was down with 🙂 – I just could not bring myself to make anymore squares, especially since they were made at such a high tension. And fortunately, I did not need to because I all of a sudden remembered that I had won these purse handles through the guild raffle. Effectively, the bag closure is similar to a clam shell…better to keep the cash in the bag!

There is no lining – who has time for lining when the stuff won’t sell. Most appropriate for bigger items. A project bag, a money bag, remembering to keep notions and coins in smaller, more secure enclosures.

Karma Chameleon Afghan

Karma Chameleon

I am liking it too much. The simplicity of the design juxtaposed with the name is pure genius…is what I wish I would hear. 😀

The Name

Karma Chameleon by Culture Club

OMG! I’m going to see The Boy in concert some time this year. I know. I am such an airhead I haven’t even checked when the concert date is yet. 🤓 😀 😜 So this was my inpiration; I think at the time I was laying this project out I had just acquired a $250.00 bill for ONE ticket to see The Boy at The Greek Theater of all places with my favorite band of all time: The B-52’s!

OMG! Did I mention I am going to see The Boy? 🙃😀

Karma Chameleon Afghan
Karma Chameleon Afghan | USD $40.00

The Afghan

Designation:

  • ODDBALLS because I don’t have any yarn labels?
  • Charity because I received the unfinished project from a guild member who won the unfinished project from a guild meeting raffle?
  • A Hooker’s World because I still hold out hope that the right person will like my stuff and buy it?

Dimensions: 50 Length x 34 width, measured in inches
Price: USD $40.00 is about worth my time and the possible development of additional tendonitis. 🙄

I received a huge bag of square  motifs with a primary surplus of Caron One Pound and bits of color yarn. Admittedly, I had a hell of a time arranging the sqaures on my computer. Finally, I thought just keep it simple and shift the colors one column every row. Just when I had that thought I had learned that I was the proud owner of a Boy ticket and wanted to name an item for Culture Club becuase they were so inpsirational in my youth.

Anyhoo…it is pure coincidence that the arrangement of the motifs also represents the changing colors on a chameleon, a reptile I would love to possess as a pet. Then I’d have someone to hold hands with; Mojo doesn’t like to hold hands. 😓

With the left over motifs, I have plans to make a project bag; I am fortunate enough to have matched tension and can crochet the missing squares I might need. With the final motifs – larger than others – I will make something else. Perhaps something to throw at The Boy because if I am right, I think my seat is three rows behind the pit, center section!

Some of the motifs have yellowed; either from smoke or age, I’m not sure as they have had time to air out and I don’t remember how they smelled when I got them. 🤓 I will wash and hope for color balance. This may affect additional discounts on the price.

The Yarn

Lion Brand Yarn Pound of Love

Care: Machine Washing and Drying: For best results, machine wash, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not bleach. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly. Or you may handwash and lay flat to dry.
Color: 100 White
Content: 100% Preumium Acrylic
Weight: 4, Worsted

Unknown

Suggested Care: Machine wash, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not bleach. Tumble dry on low.
General Colors: Pink, Fucshia, Magenta, Purple, Blue, Green, Teal
Believed Content: Acrylic
Approximated Weight: 4, Worsted

I started the LBY Pound of Love to sew all the pieces together; at least one thing is consistent, as I believe some of the colors are different yarns, but the same weight and content.

Design Notes

Motifs were joined with top slip stitch because bottom created “valley.” I realize/think now that I should have slipped tops of double crocheted versus back/front loops. It doesn’t really matter because my tension was was a bit tight causing puckering. I am hoping a washing may relax the afghan. I actually like the puckering effect. I might try to achieve a much looser tension next time to relieve puckering.

I love the design and think the afghan is very attractive for its simplicity.

Telltale Tuesday

Two Clouds Above Nine Shawl

Tale one (pictured above) is that of Two Clouds Above Nine, on which I completed the stockinette field of the shawl, using up the entire skein of Knit Picks Bare Stroll Fingering yarn I hand-dyed during an El Segundo Slipt Stitchers workshop.

Now I get to go yarn shopping for the color that will be the lace at the bottom of the shawl. My initial idea is honey-brown, but I am open to what is available at the store.

Tale two is that of Karma Chameleon, a crochet acrylic afghan, whose horizontal strips are now completed, requiring further seaming and tail tucks. I think I will be working further on this project today, hoping to finish and then get started on bag/purse one.

Euro Baby Maypole

Woohoo!

I had contact K.T. about possible help with knitting from charts. She agreed and we met for a Panera Cobblestone and my favorite Cinnamon Crunch Scone with coffee. As it turned out, I had only shifted my lace pattern. Done with knit technical support, we returned to my home where we sat and caught up with eath other’s lives.

As I was showing K.T. my new skill – interlock crochet – K.T. expressed a desire to buy it, but commented that she would like it bigger. I informed her of the price and indicated that she would be eligible for the Freinds & Family 25% discount. Because I would have to crochet more fabric, I told K.T. that I would just charge her the difference from the FF discount + she would buy the additional yarn and she agreed.

Unfortunately, the yarn used to make Mystery AchievementSchoeller+StahlPortofino Soufflé – has been discountinued. We both thought that we could take the afghan to a yarn store for color matching. We went to The Slipt Stitch to see if we could find something and we did!

Euro-baby Maypole

Care: Permanent press. Non-chlorine bleach. Do not tumble dry. Dry flat. Do not iron.
Color: 12
Content: 100% Polyester
Weight: 5, Bulky

Calculating how much we needed was a little bit of a mind bender, but I think I figured it out…I just realized that I had the wrong numbers at the store. Aiyaa! Better call K.T.; I’ve already started, but might might need more.

One Way Or Another: Inception

One Way Or Another

Objective: [One Way Or Another I was going to] turn a cone [ROCHELLE DYERS – PROD DATE: Jan 19, 1998 – LOT #: 1857 – COUNT: 1/16 – COL: FAIRWAY ROYAL – BLEND: A/P – P.O. #: MP11-14D] of 1-ply, natural fiber, thread into a 4-ply natural fiber thread to match a 3-ply, presumed natural fiber, grey thread.

I’ve spent more than half the morning trying to accomplish this.

Aiyaa! The minute the cake flew off the winder, I knew I was in trouble.

When my 2-ply cake thread broke, I resorted to winding a second cake.

Upon my final 4-ply, I kept pulling up clots, which at first I broke and knotted. After getting too many in succession, I figured I would just make a knobby thread, but that won’t match. I will just cut off excess.

The picture shows my waste on the left. I dare anyone to try untangling that much thread.

This will be my new carry-along project, which I will create with a simple repeating stitch and no pattern.

In the end, I discovered that the presumed natural fiber grey thread was actually a man-made fiber…aiyaa!

About Your Love Is King Cowl

Your Love is King by Sade

Still under the presumption that my time on this earth is coming to and end, I am proud to announce that I have cleared a whole shelf unit of yarn, minus one monstrous orange cone of super fine yarn and a bag of novelty yarn, which I only discovered when I stood up. Still, much progress and desperation, which led to Your Love Is King Cowl.

I did not know how much of Yarn 1 & 2 I had, otherwise I would have integrated more of the Starry Night ribbon.

By the way red and white are good colors for a Valentine Day gift.

Love the color. I only had one ball so I had to use it sparingly. To my surprise, I still have some left. I think I will include it with my El Segundo Slipt Stitchers raffle donation.
