I Heard It Through The Grapevine Cowl

About The Name

I Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye

Doh! This connection should be obvious: Purple, grape. If you require further elucidation, notice the rows on this cowl; just like grapevines are grown here in sunny central California.

About The Cowl

Dimensions: 12-inch width x 24-inch diameter
Price: USD $60.00

Made with three skeins that I acquire from CSNanaCat during her recent de-stashing.

A previous employer had made a cowl similar to this, but knitted in seed stitch. I fell in love with it and have always wanted one but never knew the pattern or the exact measurements. I am really liking this cowl and may just end up keeping it.

About The Name

Because I Got High by Afroman

Today is 4/20, the unofficial day of marijuana and this is what you come up with when you have – a believed – incomplete skein of yarn, ODDBALL.

About Because I Got High

Care:Consult a dry cleaner.
Dimensions:
12-inch diameter x 4-inch width
Price: USD $10.00

Because the targeted scarf was too short, I improvised a connection and turned it into a cute little cowl.

About The Yarn

This ODDBall came to me from CSNanaCat, as part of her de-stash. It was unlabeled and it appeared to me to be incomplete.

The Name

Foux du Fafa by Flight of the Concords

Lavender and white – to me – is very foux du fafa; hence, the name! Even the song lends to the whole ambiance depicted in the television commercial featuring the same song.

Foux du fafa is the final project from the big ol’ bag of stuff CSNanaCat brough to me. I was going to make another bag, but that would have required more squares and I had already spent enough time – about two weeks – finishing.

WIP Wednesday

Karma Chameleon Afghan

I am still working on Karma Chameleon afghan. I have sewn all the motifs together, bordered the afghan with one row of double crochet, and began sewing in the ends. I anticipate finishing tomorrow.

The next project will be a bag of some kind with the left over motifs, and then with the last of the larger motifs I plan on making another handbag of some sort. Oo! Or maybe a cowl?

I am still not sure which designation to assign: ODDBALLS or charity or A Hooker’s World? It is made from unknown yarns, though I am pretty sure they are all manmade, so it does qualify for ODDBALLS. I did receive the unfinished project from a guild member, so I could donate it back to charity since I didn’t pay for any of the yarn. Lastly, as I finished it, I don’t think it would be terrible to try and make a profit first. With my new business plan, it will eventually go to charity if not sold.

It may seem slow-going, but with four doctor’s appointments this week, I think my progress is definite!

Cherish Cowl: Phase II

Cherish: Phase II

About Phase II

In the mornings when I awake and begin to crochet or knit with my morning cup of coffee while listening to the news, my legs remain warm under the blanket, Mojo providing additional warmth as he lies nestled between my legs. Meanwhile, my shoulders and neck are freezing…but, not anymore!

Designer Notes

Using the general crochet formual for a circle, calculated the number of edge stitches on the cowl, this time taking into consideration, the adjustment that had been made at the end of round one to accommodate evenly distributed petal/scale placement.

88 stitches.

Next I divided the number by eight for even increase distribution and started increasing to my shoulder width. At that point, I stopped increasing, hoping for a more immediate shaping, which did not develop, and ended with me frogging back to the last increase row.

Well, at least I am going to cherish this creation.

About Cherish Cowl

The yarn for this project was gifted to me by a friend from first grade, whom’s mother pass last year. I thought I would make something for my friend, but her favorite color is purple, not pink. 😀

Dear God

Please inform Mrs. Yamamoto (Kat’s mom) – if she doesn’t know already – that her yarn stash has been discovered and is being converted into something practical for Hooker Leo, who is ever grateful to have extra yarn with with to research and develop, and keep warm.

I had seen a stitch previously on YouTube that I intrigued me. It is called Serpentine Stitch. However, I did not visualize an item – except an afghan – that would satisfactorily incorporate the stitch pattern. This led to a little research and development…and I came up with this petal-like, scale-like, biased texture by alternating a one-stitch shift/yarn-color change every other row: Shifting Serpentine Stitch.

After seeing the difference in size between wear-by-my-mother and wear-by-myself, I would have to size down the item for pattern writing. So Cherish cowl will certainly be cherished by me, a WIP (work, in progress), as I develop a poncho type item that will keep me warm in my orange garage-apartment.

I love the fact that there are no laundry instructions on the yarn label. To me, it’s a nod to the old days when people just knew how to wash clothes! 😀

Dimensions: 15-inch diameter x 5-inch height

88 sts – 15/14 = 73/74 sts feels more snug…comfy 😉 will require further arithmetic

Red Blooded Woman Cowl

Red Blooded Woman Cowl

About The Project Name

Red Blooded Woman by Kylie Minogue

I kept thinking blood with the dark red colors. A “red” search of my music library revealed Red Blooded Woman and a lightbulb turned on. I’ll tell you by the end, I was “hot-“tempered trying to make a border on a very loose fabric to hide some wonkiness.

The more I look at that first image the more it reminds me of a heart! <3

The designation of this project is on hold for the moment, as I am not sure to whom it belongs. The yarn was scooped up from the charity table at the end of my last guild meeting. I asked if it was free, received confirmation from another member – I think it was Kathy McF – and took it. Like I need more yarn!

I need to stop doing that; the good thing is that I work it up immediately. So it’s in and out. Besides, my UFOs are piling up!

I suppose because the item contains both labeled yarns and oddballs, I think I will donate it back to the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers Charity Division.

About Anna Sun

The second of fraternal twins made from the same set of oddballs.

Anna Sun represents the use of all my heavier, bulky-weight yarns. Again, because there are different weights of yarn with different fiber contents (man-made and natural, all per burn test), there is some cinching of the width in some places, and again, if the cowl is doubled- or triple-wrapped during wear, the cinching becomes unnoticeable.

Dimensions: 116 (D) x 4-5 (W)

Trendsetter Blossom

Fiber Content: 73% Nylon, 27% Viscose
Yarn Color: Purple*
Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky

I was able to identify the Lion Brand Homespun because it came from my stash and I used it for the border: purple and blue stranded together; the Trendsetter Blossom was a unicorn tail with label attached.

* Yarn color unidentifiable due to missing information and/or label.

About Anna Molly

The first of a set of fraternal twins made from the same set of oddballs.

One yarn was labeled, but I lost it. 🙁 Because I the yarns were different weights, I had to double-strand some, which accounts for some cinching of the width, but while wearing doubled-up, it becomes unnoticeable.

I think I will try to sell first, as I have a business plan now and could certainly use some additional income. 🙂

Your Love Is King Cowl

About Your Love Is King Cowl

Your Love is King by Sade

Still under the presumption that my time on this earth is coming to and end, I am proud to announce that I have cleared a whole shelf unit of yarn, minus one monstrous orange cone of super fine yarn and a bag of novelty yarn, which I only discovered when I stood up. Still, much progress and desperation, which led to Your Love Is King Cowl.

I did not know how much of Yarn 1 & 2 I had, otherwise I would have integrated more of the Starry Night ribbon.

By the way red and white are good colors for a Valentine Day gift.

This is the last cone of ladder lace yarn I had on the shelf.

Love the color. I only had one ball so I had to use it sparingly. To my surprise, I still have some left. I think I will include it with my El Segundo Slipt Stitchers raffle donation.
