Telltale Tuesday

Two Clouds Above Nine Shawl

Tale one (pictured above) is that of Two Clouds Above Nine, on which I completed the stockinette field of the shawl, using up the entire skein of Knit Picks Bare Stroll Fingering yarn I hand-dyed during an El Segundo Slipt Stitchers workshop.

Now I get to go yarn shopping for the color that will be the lace at the bottom of the shawl. My initial idea is honey-brown, but I am open to what is available at the store.

Tale two is that of Karma Chameleon, a crochet acrylic afghan, whose horizontal strips are now completed, requiring further seaming and tail tucks. I think I will be working further on this project today, hoping to finish and then get started on bag/purse one.

A friend of mine recently made something in the same fashion and I was impressed by the simplicity of the construction and the two-tone appearance, so I set to crocheting this cowl for donation.

Imagine my surprise when I learned that the organization I was going to donate this cowl to unravels all crochet items and reuses the yarn for a very specific knit scarf pattern. I suppose I really would not matter, one way or the other, but it stuck in my craw that my work was unappreciated, so I kept it.

I can’t even tell you how long it took to make because I didn’t record anything; I can’t even be specific about the yarn I used because they were from my stash and did not have a yarn label.

Label for the multicolor yarn found; post updated accordingly.

I can tell you how to make one on your own…

With Yarn A (Fiber Content: Unknown [Acrylic]; Yarn Color: [Pink]; Yarn Weight: 4, Worsted) I made a chain to my desired circumference and joined with a slip knot. Alternating with Yarn B: Hobby Lobby Baby Bee Dreamy Baby Chenille (Fiber Content: 90% Polyamide, 10% Acrylic; Yarn Color: Sweet Cheeks 109; Yarn Weight: 6, Super Bulky), I worked single crochets in the back loop.

Dimensions: 33 (D) x 5 (W) inches

This cowl is very soft and cushy. As pictured it is long enough that it can be double-wrapped for increased warmth.

Price: USD $50.00

The project name – It Takes Two, sung by Zac Efron, from Hairspray movie soundtrack – correlates to the method of construction, requiring “two” different and complimentary yarns, to create the “two-tone” effect.
