We Need A Little Christmas Scarf

We Need A Little Christmas

The Name

We Need A Little Christmas by Angela Lansbury from Mame

One of my most favorite movies – well, at least the 1958 Auntie Mame version with Rosalind Russell. I later became aware of the Lucille Ball version (1974 Mame), which is when I was introduced to this song. I later learned that Angela Lansbury had performed the song as well in a stage production.

Cha Cha Heels by Rosabel with Jeanie Tracy

This song was the first that came to mind when I started making this shawl. My second thought went to Dawn Davenport of Female Trouble. Then I laughed at how far my project name is from the original pattern name.

About The Pattern

Pixie Ruffle Shawl by Susan Sheby

Easy to follow. Loved the method of creation and might have to investigate this model further for a bigger crescent-shaped shawl, though this one really expanded without my realization.

About The Yarn

Colinette Tagliatelli

Color: Fire 71
Content: 90% Merino pure wool, 10% Nylon
Weight: 5, Bulky

Surprised to learn of merino wool content; nylon stretchiness apparent. Easy to work with. I was needlessly concerned about ribbon-twisting affecting knit pattern; as I learned I could knit right through twisting, work with ribbon became even easier.

Design Notes

I was smart this time and alternated between two balls of ribbon every two rows, so I would not have an issue with pooling pattern shifting.

Anna Molly & Anna Sun Scarves: Inception

Anna Molly & Anna Sun Scarves

In an effort to clear the area in my living room of all my stash and product, I decided to sit and sort – weight, fiber content – through my last bag of “oddballs.” In the end I decided to split the bag between light and heavy yarns.

Today I am, hopefully, going to finish Anna Sun – by Walk The Moon; Anna Molly – by Incubus – might be done, but I am not sure yet. Again, I have not decided whether to attempt sales or donate to charity.

About The Yarn

Red Heart Boutique Sashay

Fiber Content: 97% Acrylic, 3% Metallic Polyester
Yarn Color: 1959 Twist
Yarn Weight: 6, Super Bulky

While I did not find the desired red ribbon with white polka dot yarn, I did find this skein of blue sashay. After making two of this scarves already, my first thought was to donate back as part of my raffle obligation. I don’t know what possessed me to knit this up, especially beginning with a debacle, which I managed to hide sufficiently.

I even discovered a trick for when this yarn forms a bell scarf; it is simply that the lace has not been separated enough. This can be rectified by starting at one end, pulling the lace out, and following it to the other side of the scarf.

About The Yarn

Red Heart Boutique Sassy Lace

Fiber Content: 100% Nylon
Yarn Color: 334 Scarlet
Yarn Weight: 6, Super Bulky

I have never used the lace before and I am a BIG fan because of the packaging alone, which saves the user the time of having to separate the lace before using it. Aside for usability, the lace is so pretty and I love the color. The last part of this yarn that I really loved was the simplicity of the holes used for knitting.

#1 Crush Sciarpetta

#1 Crush Sciarpetta

I was organizing again and discovered a near-empty stash binge with only some red ruffle yarns. I thought, “Hey, Valentine’s Day is coming up; some red product might garner somer interest in your craft. :D”

About #1 Crush Sciarpetta

By Garbage from the movie Romeo + Juliet is perfectly named as a Valentine’s Day gift for your number one crush; especially, if that person is petite in stature – sciarpetta – because this scarf is short, and Italian since we are dealing with Romeo & Juliet.

Soft with a dash of sparkle.

Technically speaking, annoying to work with due to necessity; first to open folded lace, and then to lace separate for proper knitting – only to have the lace fold back up on itself – rolling my eyes! Bottom line? Poor packaging Red Heart. 🙁

About The Project Name

Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles relates to the colorway of the yarn, Cascade Tangier Strawberry Patch, with honorable mention: Here Be Water Dragons by Quinton Lime.

About The Project

I think the repetitiveness of the pattern actually helped my tendonitis. I noticed – for the first time – my right knitting hand needle hitting my left hand middle knuckle on the purl, which kinda ouched! ? It’s always something… ?

I saw how the designer blocked to the curve. I chose to block straight because I hate pin-blocking. Once again, I demonstrate my own poor-boy blocking method:

I especially liked the ones with the wheelbarrow and dolly photo bomb…imaginations of my hunky farmer husband working out in the fields/barn while I knit, cook and clean at home. ?

About The Yarn

Cascade Tangier (Fiber Content: 46% Silk, 18% Cotton, 18% Acrylic, 18% Viscose; Yarn Color: 14 Strawberry Patch; Yarn Weight: 4, Worsted)

Before I start this section, let me take a look at the pictures I captured…

The color/sheen seems gone after delicate hand-washing and sun-weight blocking. Of course the featured photo has been color enhanced; all other photos are only color corrected.

I suppose I am just too tired to be even typing right now…upon second review after color correction, the colors appear more muted in daylight than they probably would inside the warm ambiance of my orange room. The colorway just reminded me of the succulent that inspired me to purchase this colorway. Ha! I am even impressed with my styling, how the two angles juxtapose over the chest.

About The Pattern

Here Be Water Dragons by Quinton Lime

As much as those p2tog tbls were a pain in the neck, I thought the designer took excellent notes for her pattern. I think I only found one thing that I might correct, but just did through my own experience, which seems to be increasing. I do have questions, though, about stitch choices.

Easy to follow. Repetitive. Quick knit.
