About Cherish Cowl

The yarn for this project was gifted to me by a friend from first grade, whom’s mother pass last year. I thought I would make something for my friend, but her favorite color is purple, not pink. 😀

Dear God

Please inform Mrs. Yamamoto (Kat’s mom) – if she doesn’t know already – that her yarn stash has been discovered and is being converted into something practical for Hooker Leo, who is ever grateful to have extra yarn with with to research and develop, and keep warm.

I had seen a stitch previously on YouTube that I intrigued me. It is called Serpentine Stitch. However, I did not visualize an item – except an afghan – that would satisfactorily incorporate the stitch pattern. This led to a little research and development…and I came up with this petal-like, scale-like, biased texture by alternating a one-stitch shift/yarn-color change every other row: Shifting Serpentine Stitch.

After seeing the difference in size between wear-by-my-mother and wear-by-myself, I would have to size down the item for pattern writing. So Cherish cowl will certainly be cherished by me, a WIP (work, in progress), as I develop a poncho type item that will keep me warm in my orange garage-apartment.

88 sts – 15/14 = 73/74 sts feels more snug…comfy 😉 will require further arithmetic

This is the project I worked on while undergoing radiation therapy. It is a long overdue gift for mom. I needed something portable, that I could carry with me on the medical transportation van.

I was very eager to use the Pingouin ever since I obtained it from somewhere. Took about as much yarn to finally get comfortable with knitting the wild curls. I was lucky enough to find the right color Fun Fur in my stash, which means all the yarn was FREE!

In the light the trim looks gold!

The construction is 30 stitches knit in garter for 4+ skeins of the Pingouin, started with a provisional cast-on and ended with a garter kitchener grafting. The two-round border was a slip stitch for round one and single crochet over slip stitch for round two.

The project name is simple enough: the Pingouin yarn reminds me of lamb’s wool, which reminded me of Mary, and Along Comes Mary by The Association.

Now to get back onto that Raiders Afghan…
