Island In The Sun Cowl

Island In The Sun Cowl

About The Project Name

Island In The Sun by Weezer because I had already used Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean, which would have been better because of the yarn color; but, I do like Weezer better.

About The Yarn

Bernat Viva

Fiber Content: 82% Acrylic, 18% Nylon
Yarn Color: 51734 Caribbean
Yarn Weight: 6, Super Bulky

It has been so long since I worked with a super bulky yarn that it took a little getting used to again. Considering the short color runs, I am pretty convinced that this would have looked similar knit.

About The Project

I really wanted to knit, but having only one skein (approximately 85 yards), I was restricted to usable items I could knit. I did have a little extra yarn, so I can’t guarantee it as a one skein project. However, I did stop about the same place I began after using my extra due to a knot in the whole skein towards the end.

Additionally, there is too much frustration knitting small items, as I am restricted to 24 inch cables, due to my large hands. I started to knit a medium cowl, but forgot about curling of stockinette, so decided to crochet in stockinette, no curling.

Dimensions: 12 (D) x 8 (H) inches
Price: USD $12.00, less 25% Friends & Family Discount, where applicable

I was going to write a recipe, but just discovered that my stitch is not identified as I thought, and it appears I might have created a new stitch: Single Crochet Stockinette – at least to me!

Pork and Beans Infant Pork Pie Hat

Pork and Beans Infant Pork Pie Hat

About The Project

Pork and Beans by Weezer – this was an easy project to name. Honestly, only time will tell if the hat actually fits, January 2018 being the due date. Considering it is modeled after Safety Dance Beanie, which is based on another pattern.

About The Pattern

I will be writing the quick pattern right after this post.

About The Design

The hat is constructed in single crochet only and designed according to standard guidelines: “full-term babies tend, on average…a head circumference of about 13 1/2 inches.[1]” Using my handy dandy circle calculator, I calculated the diameter to be 4.3 inches. I did not use any ease, negative/positive, as the diameter was on point and matched Safety Dance Hat diameter.

Because of the shaping, I used a US 7  crochet hook for a denser fabric.

Undone (The Sweater Song) Sweater

Undone (The Sweater Song) Sweater

I MADE MY FIRST SWEATER!

I found Deb’s Crafts Baby Bumpy Sweater and thought it was simple enough to make. I also liked that it is for ages 0-3 months.

About The Pattern

Very well written and easy to follow. I made my sweater in about 6 hours. I did not include the “bumpy” because the pictured sweater looked puckered. The pattern calls for a US J hook and that’s what I used.

About The Yarn

Of course, I did not read the pattern in its entirety and missed the amount of yarn necessary to complete the pattern. Because of this, I changed colors because I thought I would not have enough. As I am writing this post, I discover that my skein of Caron Honeyspun (Fiber Content: 100% Orlon; Yarn Color: 5190 Country Peach Ombre; Yarn Weight: 4, Aran) is exactly enough. Glad I changed to Lion Brand Pound of Love (Fiber Content: 100% Acrylic, Yarn Color: Antique White; Yarn Weight: 4, Worsted) because I crochet loosely and probably would have run out at the very end.

I would like to call out Lion Brand for their poor customer relations with respect to their skeins of yarn. Why in the hell, after all these years, have yarn companies not come up with a easy center pull skein? In the middle of my project I had to waste my time untangling yarn barf. I finally cut the yarn. I am going to send the pieces to Lion Brand and DEMAND a new skein.
