Mystery Achievement Afghan: New Project

Mystery Achievement Afghan Development Sample

I figured out how to interlock crochet in-the-round!

I wrote down what I’ve done so far, which is good because I am liking the design and it will be measure of how well my documentation skills are for this new method in case I want to write a pattern up.

Today, I might play around with digital designing to see what I can come up with and then see if I might go a different direction for the actual piece…a mystery! 😀

The name of this project is spiritually related and inspired…I was listening to music from my library, while composing this post and my interlock crochet progress and the three songs that impressed themselves into my memory are Mystery Achievement by The Pretenders, Snowball by DEVO and Trust by Me’Shell Ndegéocello.

I did “achieve” something really big – a “mystery” to me: interlock crochet in-the-round!

And I didn’t lose a love – sardonically speaking, I never had one to begin with 😉

As I had decided on Mystery Achievement, Trust had started, confirming my choice, and which was another good name.

I knew there was something I was going to add: The yarn I have been using for this afghan development is Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable (Fiber Content: 100% Acrylic; Yarn Colors: 01044 True Grey & 01011 Soft Taupe; Yarn Weight: 4, Worsted).

Finished Size:

About The Project Name

Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles relates to the colorway of the yarn, Cascade Tangier Strawberry Patch, with honorable mention: Here Be Water Dragons by Quinton Lime.

About The Project

I think the repetitiveness of the pattern actually helped my tendonitis. I noticed – for the first time – my right knitting hand needle hitting my left hand middle knuckle on the purl, which kinda ouched! ? It’s always something… ?

I saw how the designer blocked to the curve. I chose to block straight because I hate pin-blocking. Once again, I demonstrate my own poor-boy blocking method:

I especially liked the ones with the wheelbarrow and dolly photo bomb…imaginations of my hunky farmer husband working out in the fields/barn while I knit, cook and clean at home. ?

About The Yarn

Cascade Tangier (Fiber Content: 46% Silk, 18% Cotton, 18% Acrylic, 18% Viscose; Yarn Color: 14 Strawberry Patch; Yarn Weight: 4, Worsted)

Before I start this section, let me take a look at the pictures I captured…

The color/sheen seems gone after delicate hand-washing and sun-weight blocking. Of course the featured photo has been color enhanced; all other photos are only color corrected.

I suppose I am just too tired to be even typing right now…upon second review after color correction, the colors appear more muted in daylight than they probably would inside the warm ambiance of my orange room. The colorway just reminded me of the succulent that inspired me to purchase this colorway. Ha! I am even impressed with my styling, how the two angles juxtapose over the chest.

About The Pattern

Here Be Water Dragons by Quinton Lime

As much as those p2tog tbls were a pain in the neck, I thought the designer took excellent notes for her pattern. I think I only found one thing that I might correct, but just did through my own experience, which seems to be increasing. I do have questions, though, about stitch choices.

Easy to follow. Repetitive. Quick knit.

What Are You Working On?

What Are You Working On?

I am working on The Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland Shawlette. This shawlette will be made form Arucania Patagonia Nature Cotton in Color: 202.

I am really liking the softness of the cotton, combined with the same sensation yesterday working on some Russian Bargello techniques. For my Russian Bargello, I only have 300 mg of cotton: Patons Grace in Color 60409 Ruby , Mondial Cotton Soft Speciale Baby in Color 200 Black, and an unknown cotton left over from Pink Elephant. I am thinking I will use this sample as a pillow cover.

And I need to find another pattern for Mini Mikey’s booties because the one I was using – “Crochet Baby Booties – GREEN ZEBRA by Croby Patterns” – was poorly written. I thought it seemed familiar to another pattern I had crocheted in the past for Eve’s twins: Crochet wrap around button infant boots- girls and boys by Ashlee Prisbrey. It kills me how people can copy other people’s work; I am highly skeptical that two pattern would be created in the exact same manner. Whatever! I’m not in it.

Eat To The Beat Baby Bib: Update

Eat To The Beat Baby Bib

At the suggestion of another crocheter, I finally put a border on this bib. Not a fan of single crochet legs, I chose to crochet a crab stitch border, which I really like. Now that I’ve finished, I am wondering if a wrong side single crochet border might look better? Hmm…

The border was crocheted using an unidentified white kitchen cotton yarn. For other project info please see the original post: Eat To The Beat Baby Bib.Save

Nicest Kids In Town Sweater

Nicest Kids In Town Sweater

About The Project

Well, babies don’t jog. My next thought was a project name including the word “walk.” Wait! Babies don’t walk either. I ended up with Nicest Kids In Town, sung by James Marsden, from Hairspray 2007 Original Soundtrack.

About The Pattern

Infant Jogging Suit by Kim Guzman

Very simple. Does require the use of two different hook sizes: US G for ribbing, US H for body. I Had a question about one thing and the designer replied to me super fast in my opinion – the same day!

Once again, my impulsiveness got the best of me again. I did not look closely at the pattern and realized after I had made the first piece that I needed to seam this project together. What the heck! I need sweater practice, though already I am a fan of top down.

Seaming of this sweater was first done with single crochet, but later changed to slip stitch in an attempt to alleviate some of the puckering…improved, but not gone completely, and the stiffness apparent in photo. The designer indicates she used cotton…I wonder if the fiber might contribute/alleviate the puckering from seaming?

About The Project

Eat To The Beat by Blondie

Another easy project name.

About The Pattern

Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Baby Crochet Bibs and Booties

Couple of abbreviations/typos that I did not understand, but was able to crochet right though them. I would suggest some line spacing for readability, too cramped.

I did not include the picot edging, as it makes things look feminine and we are expecting a boy.

About The Yarn

Having pulled out my cotton scraps, I picked a few colors that I like to see together. None of the scraps I chose had a yarn label, but I am pretty sure their are either Lily Sugar ‘n Cream or Peaches & Creme.

Ha! Putting my bag o’ cotton away, I found two labels:

Pork and Beans Infant Pork Pie Hat

Pork and Beans Infant Pork Pie Hat

About The Project

Pork and Beans by Weezer – this was an easy project to name. Honestly, only time will tell if the hat actually fits, January 2018 being the due date. Considering it is modeled after Safety Dance Beanie, which is based on another pattern.

About The Pattern

I will be writing the quick pattern right after this post.

About The Design

The hat is constructed in single crochet only and designed according to standard guidelines: “full-term babies tend, on average…a head circumference of about 13 1/2 inches.[1]” Using my handy dandy circle calculator, I calculated the diameter to be 4.3 inches. I did not use any ease, negative/positive, as the diameter was on point and matched Safety Dance Hat diameter.

Because of the shaping, I used a US 7  crochet hook for a denser fabric.

About The Project

The first hat for Mini Mikey! The name of this project – Safety Dance by Men Without Hats – is as close as I could get to making a correlative relation. The next hat I make for Mini Mikey will be in the pork pie fashion, but more colorful.

Sweet Baby Boy Infant Boys Beanie by Lorene Eppolite, Cre8tion Crochet

So glad to find a worsted weight pattern for an infant boy beanie. I have lots of cotton scraps I can use. Very simple pattern with a twist so pay attention.

I always forget how non-stretchy cotton yarn is, but I agree with Lorene’s suggestion for cotton with baby accessories. I usually use acrylic for easy care.

Design Notes

This is one more stitch pattern that will be included in my future eBook: Hounds-tooth & Beyond. Unfortunately, I thought I had crocheted all the different stitch patterns I wanted to include, but apparently not. Because they patterns bare many similarities, it was hard to identify my own work because I did not keep good track…live and learn. I then discovered from Ravelry that I need to create separate patterns before including them all in an eBook…aiyaa!

I must admit that I am so impressed how these two colors complemented each other so well and elevate the stitch pattern from thrift store to regal.  This pattern is being created after I finish this post and will be available in a separate post. Stay tuned!

About The Yarn

Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable

Fiber Content: 100% Acrylic
Yarn Colors: 01011 Soft Taupe & 01532 Claret
Yarn Weight: 4, Worsted

I always use worsted weight when I am testing. Because this is a stitch development project, yarn weight won’t matter much in the end.

About The Project Name

Originally, this pattern was going to be  named Mediate by INXS because of the mindless crochet. As it developed the colors really reminded me of vintage clothing and I changed the name to Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Wanz.
