Mystery Achievement Afghan: Sold

Euro Baby Maypole

Woohoo!

I had contact K.T. about possible help with knitting from charts. She agreed and we met for a Panera Cobblestone and my favorite Cinnamon Crunch Scone with coffee. As it turned out, I had only shifted my lace pattern. Done with knit technical support, we returned to my home where we sat and caught up with eath other’s lives.

As I was showing K.T. my new skill – interlock crochet – K.T. expressed a desire to buy it, but commented that she would like it bigger. I informed her of the price and indicated that she would be eligible for the Freinds & Family 25% discount. Because I would have to crochet more fabric, I told K.T. that I would just charge her the difference from the FF discount + she would buy the additional yarn and she agreed.

Unfortunately, the yarn used to make Mystery AchievementSchoeller+StahlPortofino Soufflé – has been discountinued. We both thought that we could take the afghan to a yarn store for color matching. We went to The Slipt Stitch to see if we could find something and we did!

Red Blooded Woman Cowl

Red Blooded Woman Cowl

About The Project Name

Red Blooded Woman by Kylie Minogue

I kept thinking blood with the dark red colors. A “red” search of my music library revealed Red Blooded Woman and a lightbulb turned on. I’ll tell you by the end, I was “hot-“tempered trying to make a border on a very loose fabric to hide some wonkiness.

The more I look at that first image the more it reminds me of a heart! <3

The designation of this project is on hold for the moment, as I am not sure to whom it belongs. The yarn was scooped up from the charity table at the end of my last guild meeting. I asked if it was free, received confirmation from another member – I think it was Kathy McF – and took it. Like I need more yarn!

I need to stop doing that; the good thing is that I work it up immediately. So it’s in and out. Besides, my UFOs are piling up!

I suppose because the item contains both labeled yarns and oddballs, I think I will donate it back to the El Segundo Slipt Stitchers Charity Division.

About Anna Sun

The second of fraternal twins made from the same set of oddballs.

Anna Sun represents the use of all my heavier, bulky-weight yarns. Again, because there are different weights of yarn with different fiber contents (man-made and natural, all per burn test), there is some cinching of the width in some places, and again, if the cowl is doubled- or triple-wrapped during wear, the cinching becomes unnoticeable.

Trendsetter Blossom

Fiber Content: 73% Nylon, 27% Viscose

I was able to identify the Lion Brand Homespun because it came from my stash and I used it for the border: purple and blue stranded together; the Trendsetter Blossom was a unicorn tail with label attached.

Your Love Is King Cowl

About Your Love Is King Cowl

Your Love is King by Sade

Still under the presumption that my time on this earth is coming to and end, I am proud to announce that I have cleared a whole shelf unit of yarn, minus one monstrous orange cone of super fine yarn and a bag of novelty yarn, which I only discovered when I stood up. Still, much progress and desperation, which led to Your Love Is King Cowl.

I did not know how much of Yarn 1 & 2 I had, otherwise I would have integrated more of the Starry Night ribbon.

By the way red and white are good colors for a Valentine Day gift.

About The Yarn

Yarn 2

This is the last cone of ladder lace yarn I had on the shelf.

Love the color. I only had one ball so I had to use it sparingly. To my surprise, I still have some left. I think I will include it with my El Segundo Slipt Stitchers raffle donation.

Mystery Achievement Afghan: Solved

Mystery Achievement Afghan

About The Project Name

Mystery Achievement by The Pretenders was an ideal choice for this mystery that I was able to solve and even write my own mystery.

About The Yarn

Schoeller+Stahl Portofino Soufflé

Fiber Content: 40% Cotton, 40% Acrylic, 20% Nylon
Yarn Colors: 4705 (2 balls), 4724 (7 balls), 4739 (2 balls), 4727 (2 balls)
Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky

Very pretty colors, but it has a bouclé feel, which gets very old when one has to ?, and because I was improvising, on a new technique, I have plenty of opportunity to frustrate myself. I got so frustrated at one point I broke the yarn, ?-ing. Grrr!

About The Pattern

The pattern was created in my head, as I crocheted. Until I got a pattern I liked, and then I had to chart a few layers until I was proficient enough to work without them. I was going to write a pattern, but when I realized I would have to include instructions on how to interlock crochet, I decided against it. I was having enough frustration following pattern and frogging bouclé yarn.

About The Project

Dimensions: approximately 36 inches, square
Price: USD $100.00, less 25% friends/family discount, where applicable

If you look closely at the pictures, you might notice the reversed pattern.

I would like to point out that this was crocheted in-the-round, which I challenged myself to learn, as the book I used (Interlocking Crochet: 80 Original Stitch Patterns Plus Techniques and Projects by Tanis Galik) taught only row-by-row.

It’s a miracle I had enough yarn for this project and that it came out to a decent size because not until I finished did I realize the yarn I used was bulky, not worsted. I knitted the project on US 8 needles because I thought the yarn was worsted weight. I ? this project.

Purple Haze Cowl

©A Hooker’s World

Project Name: Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix

I like this one better than Deep Purple Cowl because the stripes are better defined and closer to the design in my mind. This will be the birthday gift for my friend from first grade instead of the Deep Purple Cowl. I am thinking the person for whom I am knitting this cowl, will not even notice the difference, but out of honesty I will give full disclosure, reducing the price if necessary. I don’t think it will be a problem, as the customer saw the first one and loved that one also.

Yarn A: Lion Brand Color Waves (Fiber Content: 83% Acrylic, 17% Polyester; Yarn Color: 347 Purple Vista; Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky)
Yarn B: Thread (Fiber Content: Unknown; Yarn Color: Unknown [Purple]; Yarn Weight: n/a)
Needle Size: US 10

I really liked the Lion Brand Color Waves for it’s softness, cushiness and color runs. Too bad it has been discontinued.

Dimensions: 24.5 (D) x 9 (W) inches

This cowl is long enough to wrap around one’s neck twice, as pictured.

Construction: Cast on 30 stitches using a provisional cast on. Knit two rows with Yarn A & two rows Yarn B. Repeat to desired length, ending with Row 1 of Yarn B. Graft with garter kitchener stitch, using Yarn B.

This is how this cowl started out, but I thought this purple was too bright and overpowering.

I could not find a deeper purple worsted in my stash, but came across some thread in the perfect color. I double-stranded the thread and I was liking the more muted highlights. The deeper purple really compliments the shifting hues in the Lion Brand Color Waves.

Project name – Deep Purple by The Osmonds – is related to the color of this project, is a reference to my youth and my first grade friend, the recipient of this gift.

Here is my recipe:

Yarn A: Lion Brand Color Waves (Fiber Content: 83% Acrylic, 17% Polyester; Yarn Color: 347 Purple Vista; Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky)
Yarn B: Brushed Thread (Fiber Content: Unknown [Cotton]; Yarn Color: Unknown [Purple]; Yarn Weight: [Thread])
Needle: US 10 – 6.0 mm

Provisional cast on 30 stitches with yarn A (bulky for me) on circular size 10 – 6.0 mm needle.

Slide stitches to opposite needle (needle you just knitted from).

Knit row with yarn B (thread for me)

skein tails should both be on same side…turn work

Repeat [PATTERN] to desired length

[ Knit row with yarn A (bulky for me)
Slide stitches to opposite needle (needle you just knittted from)
Knit row with yarn B (thread for me)
Skein tails should both be on same side…turn work ]

Knit 1 more row with yarn A (bulky for me).

Arrange stitches on needles for garter kitchener

Graft ends together with yarn B (thread for me)

Sew in ends

Cast On: Jauary 2016
Cast Off: April 5, 2016
Pattern: Improvised by Hooker Leo
Yarn A: Laines du Pingouin Ballade (Fiber Content: 89% Mohair, 11% Nylon; Yarn Color: 15; Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky)
Yarn B: Lion Brand Fun Fur (Fiber Content: 100% Polyester; Yarn Color: 124 Champagne; Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky)
Needle: US 8
Hook: US 10 – J
Dimensions: 9 (W) x 80 (D)

This is the project I worked on while undergoing radiation therapy. It is a long overdue gift for mom. I needed something portable, that I could carry with me on the medical transportation van.

I was very eager to use the Pingouin ever since I obtained it from somewhere. Took about as much yarn to finally get comfortable with knitting the wild curls. I was lucky enough to find the right color Fun Fur in my stash, which means all the yarn was FREE!

In the light the trim looks gold!

The construction is 30 stitches knit in garter for 4+ skeins of the Pingouin, started with a provisional cast-on and ended with a garter kitchener grafting. The two-round border was a slip stitch for round one and single crochet over slip stitch for round two.

The project name is simple enough: the Pingouin yarn reminds me of lamb’s wool, which reminded me of Mary, and Along Comes Mary by The Association.

Now to get back onto that Raiders Afghan…

Cast On: February 27, 2016
Cast Off: March 5, 2016
Pattern: Improvised by Hooker Leo
Needle: US 10
Yarn: Zitron Farfalla (Fiber Content: 70% Merino, 30% Polyamid; Yarn Color: 300; Yarn Weight: 5, Bulky)
Dimensions: 23 (D) x 8 (W) inches
Price: USD $50.00

I got this with some yarn scraps from CSNanaCat. I love orange and was surprised to learn it is merino wool. It is so soft. I had three skeins and used most of it for this project, which is a 5 row repeat: k, p, k, p, k. The project name – Fade Away and Radiate by Blondie – is a random selection from my music libarary, that appropriately describes this chapter of my life. I began about the second week of my radiation treatments and have been working on it during my transportation to and from the doctor’s office each morning.
