Hooker Notes
On The Needles: December 8, 2020-January 11, 2021
Needle Size: US 7
Pattern: ABC BABY BLANKET by Jenny Williams
Dimensions: 40-inch width x 37-inch height
Because I had 984 of the required 981 yards, I made some modifications: I only knit ten rows of garter between blocks and ten knit stitches between blocks, versus twelve. The pattern as well as the yarn called for the same needle size, but perhaps I should have gone down a size, or maybe even two.
The Yarn
Yarnspirations Bernat Baby Velvet (Color: Blue Skies; Content: 100% Polyester; Weight: Medium Weight)
Lovely, but too darn soft for my hands affected with tendonitis and diabetic neuropathy. I had a hard time holding on to it. Never again! I thought it would be the prettiest, but I am not a tight knitter – required with chenille yarns – and my hands had a hell of a time. Thankfully, after wash, minimal worming. Ends poked out despite snipping them close.
Then there was the issue of two knots I encountered. For this I will NEVER use this yarn ever again; perhaps the yarn company, as well. Then again, I have so much stash yarn, I don’t need to buy yarn ever again…except for color requirements in my fiber art. Why in the hell would yarn manufacturers think we want knots in our creations? Phukking idiots!
The Name
Boys by Lizzo
Well, it is an afghan for a baby boy! And…Lizzo is my girl! There is nothing she has done that I am not a fan of, musically or politically. Any boy would be proud.
