Brokenhearted

Brokenhearted

The Name

Brokenhearted by K. D. Lang

I have been told – twice now – that this cowl looks very christmassy. While I have to admit that it does, I named it Brokenhearted because that is how I was feeling during the knit.

Brokenhearted

The Cowl

Dimensions: 11-inch diameter x 20-inch height

Ever since this cold weather set in, I have needed more protection while crocheting/knitting so I decided to make a longer cowl that I could pull up over my head.

Knit in garter.

Poison Arrow: Off da Hook

The Name

Poison Arrow by ABC

Originally, I had named this Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered, as I was having a hard time improvising a chevron design. I finally found a pattern and modified it for my use. Once I started to see the pattern, it reminded me of Cupid’s arrows.

The Cowl

Dimensions: 40-inch Diameter x 7-inch width

Pattern: Granny Chevron Cowl by Zeens & Roger

The pattern was easy to follow. I did not want to make one as wide as the pattern indicated, so it took some time to figure out my starting chain number. After that, I had the pattern in my head by the second row.

Loved the new seaming idea.

I have a friend that expressed interest in this cowl, as I was making it. If she doesn’t want it, it will be donated to charity.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 4 x 72 inches

Long-tail cast-on eleven stitches. Worked garter, alternating colors every two rows, throughout.

Interesting that it matches Mergatroid’s top!

The Yarn

Universal Classic Chunky
Color: 60639 Petrol Blue; Content: 75% Acrylic, 25% Wool; Weight: 5, Bulky

Bernat Softee Chunky
Color: 28219 Seagreen; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 6, Super Bulky

I have had the Universal yarn since I crocheted “Atlantis” back in 2011. This marks the last skein in my stash. However, I needed a complimentary color to make a charity scarf, so I headed over to JOANN Fabric & Crafts. I found the Bernat and went with it for color, figuring the different in weight would not affect the proposed scarf design.
