Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?

“Does anybody really know what time it is?
“Does anybody really care?
“If so, I can’t imagine why.
“We’ve all got time enough to die.

Brokenhearted

Brokenhearted

The Name

Brokenhearted by K. D. Lang

I have been told – twice now – that this cowl looks very christmassy. While I have to admit that it does, I named it Brokenhearted because that is how I was feeling during the knit.

Brokenhearted

The Cowl

Dimensions: 11-inch diameter x 20-inch height

Ever since this cold weather set in, I have needed more protection while crocheting/knitting so I decided to make a longer cowl that I could pull up over my head.

Knit in garter.

The Yarns

Teddy Bear is left over from Under The Bridge; Homespun is left over from Poison Arrow; and Unknown Grey is exactly that.

Something To Do

The Name

Something To Do by Depeche Mode

This marks the last item I was asked to finish.

The Afghan

Dimensions: 38 x 22.5 inches (approximate)

I added the color on the opposite side of the grey to provide some balance. I never did a tension check, considering how loose I was crocheted the worsted on an H hook. Oh well. Unfortunately, I noticed the cuffs on Con Los Años Que Me Quedan are not even either.

Ugh! I just want to get back to some knitting, hoping the different hand motion will provide some relief for my right hand; and I want to work on some of my own stuff now.

The Yarn

I have no idea, but would guess at DK* on a J hook, acrylic*.

Deep Ending

The Name

Deep Ending by Deee-Lite

This scarf marks the end of the red natural fiber yarn that I had been trying to end.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 4 x 104 inches

This scarf is a mix of back look single crochet and filet crochet. The single crochet portions present similar to brioche: one color dominant on one side, a second color dominant on the other.

Damn! My aim was to use all natural fibers. I completely brain-farted on the Patons, but those mohair guard-hairs misled me.

The Cascade Heritage Silk Paints was double-twined with the Patons Lace and made for great coloration.

The Unknown Red is the yarn I have been trying so hard to rid myself of because of it’s crinkle / boucle texture.

Designer Notes

I started in back loop single crochet, but thought the scarf might be too dense. I have this irrational fear that crochet is heavier than knitting; so much so that I feel the item I am crocheting may be cumbersome at times. So, I added sections of filet crochet to lighten it up.

I am amazed at some of the colorations in this scarf: the grey against the bright red and the blues/purples against the lighter reds of carmine and salmon.

I based my pattern repeat on nineteen rows; unfortunately, I ran out of red yarns and just ended it.

End It On This

Name

End It On This by No Doubt

The significance of this name is in the fact that it is the end of the yarn remnants from that same raffle basket, gifted to me by Rosa at the 2018 June El Segundo Slipt Stitchers meeting.

End It On This Scarf

Dimensions: 3.5-5-inch (W) x 68-inch (L)
Construction: Garter

I’ll admit that I am digging these scarves…FAST…EASY…fun matching different yarns.

Yarn

I have no idea. No testing for natural versus man-made fibers.

A Hazy Shade Of Winter Scarf

A Hazy Shade Of Winter Scarf

About The Project Name

A Hazy Shade Of Winter by Bangles

Shades of white, grey and black are very representative of winter for me: snow, gloom, depression.

About A Hazy Shade Of Winter Scarf

More often than not, I will knit novelty yarns because I can see the live stitches on the needle; crochet does not offer such easy visibility sometimes. Because I only had sixty-six yards per skein, I knew it had to be a scarf. I started several times: k1b, ribs, garter, stockinette, I could not make up my mind. I decided to go with stockinette field surrounded by garter because I know stockinette has a tendency to curl and I am not about to block anything.

I still notice how the garter edges keep folding, back, behind the stockinette. Grr! There must be a solution; that shall be my mission.

Love this yarn because I am a mohair fan. Color: Gorgeous! Knitability: Easy, but watch out for the second strand getting loose. Because they only identify yarn color by number, I don’t know which color is the odd man out, nor which color corresponds to which color
