The Skully & Scarf

Scarf Dimensions: 72 x 5 inches
Skully Dimensions: 8 (H) x 10 (D) x 31 (C) inches

The set was crocheted out of nine different red worsted scraps. The scarf was crocheted using back loop half double crochets and the skully was crocheted using double crochets.

The odd thing is that I constructed the skully to fit my head, as I was not using a pattern. My head circumference is 23 inches. I already knew that the crown width should be about 7 inches, less a 2-inch ease: 5.5 inches. However, when I do the math – either based on flat measuring or crown width, the circumference keeps coming up 31 inches!

The 64,000 question is: how does a 31-inch circumference fit snuggly on my 23-inch head?

The Yarns

Unknown Worsted Red yarns were used for this set, all unlabeled. I think I can safely estimate the Red Hearts, but all others are unknown.

Mink, Schmink by Eartha Kitt

I loved this song when I discovered it; I still do. The pink yarn used in this scarf was the inspiration for this name.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 82 x 6 inches

Worked brown: purl, knit; pink: knit purl, alternating colors every two passes. Surprisingly, I ended up with a different feature color on either side.

Harmony/I Got It: Off da Hook

The Name

Harmony/I Got It by Jayne Edwards

Harmony for the coincidental color blocking and I Got It for my knowledge of creating the small V cable I had see in some other project.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 5-5.5inch width x 78-inch length

A very simple cable scarf. I think I would figure out – maybe – a slanted cable for the borders – or maybe a twisting cable…yes.

The Yarn

Newton’s Yarn Country Brushed Acrylic
Color: Baker’s Twine+; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 4, Worsted

Red Heart Super Saver Solids
Color: Kelly Green; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 4, Worsted

Red Heart Super Saver Solids
Color: 367 Spring Green; Content: 100% Acrylic; Weight: 4, Worsted

All other yarns unlabeled scrap yarns. I am not sure – now – as to whether the yarns used are from natural or man-made fibers. I saw some natural fiber burnt ends, but can’t vouch for anything. However, I will say that the softness of this scarf – for the most past – is pretty amazing…or my fingers are more numb than I suspect.
