Rata De Dos Patas

The Name

Rata De Dos Patas by Paquita la del Barrio

Based on the color selection, this hat is the “green” gansta hood – in other words – una rata de dos patas! Honestly, it was the a random title selection from my music library.

The Slouch Skully

Dimensions: 11.5 (D) x 12 (H) inches

The Pattern

Pattern: Modified Pokéball Slouch Beanie by Black Cat Crochet

Modifications:

  • 12-dc circle
  • basic dc circle pattern for 20 rows
  • row 22: dec 1 pattern row (60)
  • row 23: sc

Ugh, I’m tired of trying on hats >ha ha<

The decrease was for increased fit. Suggestion: If you are using a striping effect, decrease on dark color.

I apologize for the photography. I got paranoid, as my mugshots stared back at me from my photo library…then I thought, I already did model several others…and if the government wanted too, they could UNDO the filter and figure out who I am! ha ha Still…not taking chances, but trust me it looks fresh on this head…very skater-ish…oh, and I just found a skater beanie pattern I’ve been wanting to try.

The Yarns

Unknown Black

Color: Gangsta*; Content: Acrylic**; Weight: 4, Worsted***

Unknown Green

Color: Scarecrow*; Content: Acrylic**; Weight: 4, Worsted***

I am presuming yarn contents and weights; the color names were what came to mind as I was constructing it.

Personally, I am looking for more bulk around the melon. Perhaps more like a tam? I love the slouch on this one – don’t remember if I styled it for photos or natural slouch. I think I might have held on to the brim, swung my head back, and maybe smooshed it down with my hand?

Slouched portion – styled, or not – looks gnomish to me…I am digging it!

The Slouch Skully

Dimensions: 11.5-inch (D) x 12-inch (H)

The Pattern

Pattern: Modified Pokemon Slouch Beanie by Black Cat Crochet

Modifications: four rows of half double crochet and 10 rows of single crochet converted to double crochet + one row of single crochet. As such, the skully does not achieve the 14-inch height of the previous one, crocheted in more accurate aran yarn weights. This have confirms that needed height and the stitch pattern.

The Yarn

Unknown Red
Color: Merlot*; Content: Unknown; Weight: 4, Worsted**

Unknown Natural
Color: Vanilla*; Content: Unknown; Weight: 4, Worsted**

Unknown White
Color: Ice*; Content: Unknown; Weight: 4, Worsted**

All yarns are presumed acrylic, having performed not burn test.

Unfortunately, the white yarn I used is more likely a DK weight. I seem to remember it being Cascade 220 superwash, and for some reason my mind wants to keep labeling it as worsted. Well, not it’s gone! You will notice in pictures how the white portion really starts to separate and I am attributing that to the lighter weight yarn.

The Slouch Skully

Dimensions: 12-inch (D) x 14-inch (H)
Pattern: Pokeball Slouch Beanie by Black Cat Crochet

This skully fits snuggly enough; I am wondering if it is the single crochet. As you can tell from the pictures, the skully is slouching; and I had nothing to do with that slouch – no manual positioning.

Just not crazy about the colors; definite charity donation. However, for the purposes of this post it is serving it’s purpose, in addition to a hoodie from my sweatshirt.

The Yarns:

Unknown Pink/White Variegate

Color: Clefable*; Content: Unknown; Weight: 4, Worsted**

Unknown Green

Color: Oddish*; Content: Unknown; Weight: 4, Worsted**

Unknown Pink Solid

Color: Clefairy*; Content: Unknown; Weight: 4, Worsted**

I am pretty sure all yarns were acrylic, but neither did I burn test them.

Troublemaker

Troublemaker

The Name

Troublemaker by Weezer

Props for posting a music video!

This was almost named The Devil Went Down To Georgia, but then Troublemaker came on. As I was listening to the lyrics, I began to identify, which, again, made me feel prophetic, melancholic, nostalgia. This of course just intensified my feelings, as I took the lyrics to heart and realized the reason for my loneliness.

I’m a troublemaker, never been a faker
Doing things my own way and never giving up
I’m a troublemaker, not a double-taker
I don’t have the patience to keep it on the up

The Slouchy Skully

Dimensions: 11 x 11 inches
Pattern: The Hadley Slouch by Olive+Brook

Apparently, I had this pattern open on my iPad. Why not.

Well, before I even finished my crown, I began to worry as I was exceeding the normal size crown I usually make: 5-5.5 inch diameter, which allows for a negative 2-inch ease for snugness. I checked my guage and I was spot on. I convinced myself to carry on with the pattern, as that was my initial goal: to get rid of all my unlabeled yarn and hats are fast.

The pattern specifies…

The hat should fit a young teen to a woman (20” to 22”) as this hat has a nice stretch to it

As I have a 23-inch head, I incorporated some allowance for a looser fit because I always reserve the right to keep something if I really like it – instead of giving it to charity.

Chorus: 😀

It seemed to loosen up more each time I tried it on, however, it wasn’t slouching the way I wanted it to. I crocheted on – just follow the pattern being my mantra. When I got to the brim, I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to break free and improvise, so…

  1. started the brim in the back loop for more of a distinction between the hat and the brim
  2. I tried an improvised rib of aligned, alternating front loop and back loop single crochets

As I approached the end of the brim, I even tightened my tension for more snugness.

It fit’s my 23-inch head okay. My niece-in-law was visiting, so I asked her to put it on. She was also satisfied with the fit, and she has long hair.

Regarding the slouch, perhaps a little bit more height? The crochet tension? Bigger hook? Crochet fabric versus knitted fabric?

I found my 8 DPNs so I may be knitting some hats also.

Cat’s In The Cradle

The Name

Cat’s In The Cradle by Harry Chapin

As I am not a fan of cats, but this is a pet pad, I am forced to start using cat name. Then again, I don’t know who’s tush, this pad will cush.

The Pet Pad

Dimensions: 18.5 x 16.75 inches

This is based on a foundation chain of 5. I need to change my corner as I am noticing puckering. I think I will definitely change from single crochet to double crochet to speed up the process of making these.

The Yarn

Still working on scraps obtained from CSNanaCat.

Punishment For Love

The Name

Punishment For Love by Bronski Beat

Purple Haze was a lazy man’s choice for the first name, as there is a lot of purple in here – I am sure a whole skein/ball at least; and, I don’t remember when I made the scarf. After having to rename due to duplicate naming, I think I happened across the correct name for how I am currently feeling.

The Scarf

Dimensions: 3-3.5 (width) x 82 (length) inches

Crocheted with a K hook in back loop single crochet, double-stranding at times to maintain yarn weight.

The Yarn

Balls and scraps of yarn without labels.
